Williamson County reported 337 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, marking a record daily high for the county.

“This breaks the record high of 208 new cases in one day set on July 13,” said a report from the Williamson County and Cities Health District on Tuesday.

“There is not one specific source of the spike in cases — social gatherings in homes, bars, school extracurriculars, asymptomatic spread and general COVID-fatigue, which causes people to let their guard down, are all factors,” said Deb Strahler, a spokeswoman for the health district in an email.

“We hope people will celebrate Thanksgiving safely!” she said.

Health district officials also reminded the public in its report “to continue to be vigilant and practice good hygiene, physical and social distancing, and wear face coverings to prevent the disease from spreading and help keep each other safe.”

“Avoiding gatherings outside of your household is especially important this holiday season,” they added.

The health district reported no new deaths on Tuesday.

The total number of confirmed cases in the county is now 12,272.

The total number of cases include 162 deaths and an estimated 11,304 recoveries as of Tuesday. Sixty-two people were in the hospital for COVID-19.

Round Rock has the most number of confirmed cases in the county with 3,643, including 3,439 recoveries. Georgetown has the second-highest number of confirmed cases with 2,331, including 2,118 estimated recoveries.

The county reported 166,093 tests done as of Tuesday or 28.37% of the population, with a rolling seven-day average positivity rate of 6.71%. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has classified coronavirus hotspots as areas with a positivity rate of 5% or higher.

Williamson County residents can get free coronavirus tests daily in Georgetown north of the library parking lot at 402 West Eighth Street. Registration is required before visiting the testing booth. To complete the required pre-registration visit bit.ly/3lmJCrp.
