Williamson County is allowing bars to open indoors starting Wednesday at 50% occupancy in compliance with the governor’s orders.

Gov. Greg Abbott issued an executive order last week to open bars and similar establishments in counties without high hospitalizations if the county judge signs an opt-in form to allow it.

Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell has signed the form, according to a county news release.

“Williamson County residents have shown that they can follow guidelines established to stop the spread of COVID-19 and get back to business,” Gravell said in the release.

“Not business as usual, but business that is conducted following the protocols determined by health professionals to keep everyone safe. We need all of our businesses to be open and operate safely so that everyone has the opportunity to work and support their families.”

Customers at bars or similar establishments may eat or drink only while seated with certain exceptions, the release said.

Patrons are allowed to stand and sample beverages in breweries, distillers or wineries but must limit their group to six people or fewer. There also must be six feet of distance between groups.

The 50 percent occupancy limit does not apply to outdoor areas, events or establishments, although social distancing must be followed, the release said.

The minimum standard health protocols recommended by the Department of State Health Services are at dshs.texas.gov/coronavirus/.
