Travis County Sheriff’s Deputy Brian Peals and safety dog Vito work together at Westlake High School. The pair trained together for a couple months with the Travis County K-9 Unit before settling in at the high school. Vito is considered an essential part of Westlake life. His favorite staff member is the attendance clerk, Jane Ellen Sanders. Aside from searching lockers and scoping out narcotics, Vito enjoys playing outside and interacting with people when the conditions are right for him. “He always makes me smile just because he’s a dog,” junior Brooke Fox said. “He kind of takes my mind off of things especially when he wears costumes or gets to play with a ball.”
