An 18-year-old man was arrested Monday after Travis County sheriff’s deputies accused him of firing an AR-15 in a Wells Branch neighborhood and threatening to kill the responding officers and their families, according to court documents.

Travis County deputies responded to the 1700 block of West Wells Branch Parkway around 10 p.m. Monday after receiving reports from residents of four to six shots fired near their homes, according to an arrest affidavit.

Officers detained Rylan Luis Rivera, who was found behind the homes with a loaded AR-15, deputies said. The gun had a red dot scope and a magazine with about nine to 10 rounds, according to the affidavit.

Deputies searched Rivera and found a “usable amount of marijuana” and a pill, the affidavit says.

Deputies arrested Rivera but, while trying to adjust his handcuffs, the 18-year-old kicked an officer in the chest, according to the report.

While driving to the jail, Rivera told one deputy he was going to kill him once he was released, deputies said. He also said he was going to put out a murder for hire on the officer’s son while he was in jail, the affidavit says.

“Don’t you see what I was carrying?” Rivera asked, according to the affidavit. “Don’t you think I have more guns?”

Rivera also said he was going to kill the other arresting officers once he was released, the court documents say.

“I have been busting (shooting guns) all this time and y’all just now caught me,” Rivera told deputies, according to the affidavit.

Rivera was charged with deadly conduct/discharging a firearm at individuals, obstruction or retaliation, an unspecified second degree felony, possession of a controlled substance less than 28 grams, and criminal mischief equal to or greater than $100 but less than $750.

Rivera was in Travis County jail as of Friday night with bail set at a combined $85,000.
