Sunday forecast for Austin: Time to break out the scarves and sweaters, as temperatures drop this week with a slight chance of more rain on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service’s outlook calls for sunny skies Sunday afternoon with a high of 61 degrees and 10 to 15 mph winds, and gusts as high as 25 mph, out of the north and northwest. Get ready to bundle up tonight with blankets and tea, with a low of 36 degrees.

The weather service’s extended forecast for the week includes more clear skies with high temperatures in the 50s and low temperatures in the 30s and 40s. (So think about bringing the plants inside.)

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 53. North wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Mostly clear, with a low below freezing — around 30 degrees — and the wind calming down in the evening. If you have children learning about the water cycle in school, this is the perfect night to put a cup of water outside and see if the top freezes.

Tuesday: Sunny during the day with a high near 58 and light wind. At night, expect mostly clear skies with a low around 41.

Wednesday: A 20 percent chance of showers after 7 a.m. Other than that, skies should be mostly sunny, with a high near 59 and light wind and gust as high as 20 mph. There is also a 20 percent chance of showers before 7 p.m. with a nighttime low around 37 degrees.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 53 and wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. At night, the temperature could drop as far as 33 degrees with cloudy evening skies.
