Following the Oct. 10 retirement of longtime Public Works Director Jackie Bob Wright, Rollingwood set in motion plans to bring on a new staffer. A city selection committee found David Brasich to take the role, and he became the city’s newest employee on Jan. 27.

“He has all of the credentials,” City Administrator Amber Lewis said, noting that Brasich’s certifications include master plumber, building official, master medical gas specialist, registered accessibility specialist and floodplain manager.

He is also one of only 800 people worldwide who possess a master code professional certification in conjunction with the International Code Council.

“We are super excited about him and glad to have him here,” Lewis said.

She said Brasich could be able to help out with the city’s plan reviews, a savings since that work is currently contracted to a third party. He’s already jumping in to city issues, working to add licenses in water/wastewater operation and distribution to his resume next year, she said.

Brasich isn’t new to the area and has longstanding ties to West Lake Hills, having served as that city’s public works director, flood plain manager, building official and code enforcer.

But that’s not the Indiana native’s only relationship to the area. Twenty-six years ago, Brasich married his wife on the bridge of Zilker Park’s Taniguchi Japanese Garden while he lived nearby.

A plumber by trade, Brasich has lived all over the world, practicing his craft in France and England, his wife’s home.

“I’m a plumber, and plumbers can work anywhere in the world,” he said.

When the couple came back to Texas from Europe in 2006, Brasich developed arthritis in his hands. So he turned to municipality work, joining the cities of Marble Falls and Bastrop in addition to serving the Westbank.

Rollingwood residents, city staff, council members and utility commissioners welcomed Brasich at a Feb. 4 reception.

“Some people are artists. I see things that are broken, and it’s a challenge for me to fix it,” Brasich said. “I like challenges. That’s what I look forward to.”

Brasich is an avid horse rider, enjoys working out, playing Frisbee golf, riding bicycles and swimming.

He said he looks forward to coming to work in Rollingwood, seeing the city’s natural treed beauty and open spaces.

“I like that it’s a neighborhood within the doorstep of Zilker Park,” Brasich said.
