Webinar set for Thursday

on COVID-19 vaccine

The Travis County Medical Society and Dell Medical School will host a webinar with information on the COVID-19 vaccine from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday.

Public health leaders will discuss preparation for the arrival of COVID-19 vaccines in Austin and Travis County, including coordination among health care systems and providers and planning for efficient and equitable distribution. Panelists will include Stephanie Hayden, director of Austin Public Health, and Mark Escott, interim medical director and health authority for Austin Public Health.

BUDA

Council adopts

transportation plan

The Buda City Council adopted an updated Transportation Mobility Master Plan at its Dec. 1 meeting.

The plan identifies transportation needs, develops solutions and prioritizes improvements to allow the transportation system to keep pace with desired growth and development. It also includes projects that fall in the jurisdiction of other regional agencies but are critical to Buda’s transportation network.

Identified priorities were to preserve small-town character, add system capacity to accommodate rapid development, increase east-west connectivity, prepare for increased traffic from the Texas 45 extension, improve trail connectivity and improve safety for bicyclists and pedestrians.

SMITHVILLE

Holiday Market

downtown on Saturday

The city of Smithville will present the Festival of Lights Outdoor Holiday Market from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday on Main Street.

Outdoor vendor booths will be on Main Street. Photos with Santa Claus will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for $5. The evening lighted parade has been canceled due to COVID-19 restrictions.

GEORGETOWN

Fundraising campaign

launched for library

The Friends of the Georgetown Library is launching a fundraising campaign, Giving Season, and is seeking donations.

The library has received budget cuts and has fewer volunteers to assist staff. Monetary gifts are needed to help maintain its continuing service to the community, and donations will support programs such as the Words on Wheels bookmobile and home delivery van, live music, the Hill Country Authors series and the Second-Hand Prose book store.

Donations can be made by mailing a check to the Friends of the Georgetown Public Library, 402 W. Eighth Street, Georgetown, TX 78626, or online at folgeorgetown.org/product/donation.
