One day after reporting a record high number of new confirmed coronavirus cases on Thursday, that number jumped again by 60% Friday.
The Williamson County Cities and Health District reported 24 new confirmed cases on Friday. The county reported 15 new confirmed cases Thursday, which had been the most reported since the first four confirmed cases were reported on March 18.
Officials have said they don’t have enough data yet to explain the increase.
The county now has a total of 206 cases, according to a news release from the district.
Since last Friday, Williamson County has had a total of 66 new confirmed cases. Those include six cases on April 17, five on Saturday, four on Sunday and one case on Monday. They also include two cases on Tuesday and nine cases on Wednesday.
Five people have died of confirmed coronavirus in the county and 124 people have recovered, officials said. Twelve people are currently in the hospital.
Round Rock has the most confirmed cases in the county with 78. Georgetown has the second-highest number with 32.
Additional deaths and cases from COVID-19, the disease linked to the coronavirus, will be reported on the online dashboard at www.wcchd.org/COVID-19/dashboard.php. The dashboard is updated daily just past noon.
Anyone with symptoms of respiratory illness, including cough, fever and shortness of breath, should contact their health care provider. It is important to call ahead before arriving at a clinic, urgent care or emergency department to avoid potential spread.
