Friday forecast for Austin: It’s beginning to look a lot like November — at least for Austin’s weather this weekend.
After weeks of dryness interrupted only by a brief downpour earlier this week, Friday could be our wettest day so far this month as a cold front sweeps across Texas, inspiring showers and thunderstorms during the day, the National Weather Service says.
Morning fog will be a nuisance for some commuters before 9 a.m. Overcast skies will help keep daytime temperatures below 68 degrees. A 70% chance of rain could end up producing between a quarter-inch and a half-inch of rainfall.
At night, showers and thunderstorms remain likely after 4 a.m. as temperatures dip to a low near 54.
The arrival of the cold front will be heralded by north winds of around 10 mph that could include gusts as strong as 20 mph. Rain chances as high as 60% at night could generate up to a quarter-inch of rain, forecasters say.
The weather service’s extended forecast calls for more rain Saturday and a blustery start to December:
Saturday: 90% chance of rain, high near 58. North-northeast winds of around 10 mph with gusts as strong as 20 mph. Up to an inch of rainfall possible. Overnight low of around 42.
Sunday: Sunny with a high near 60. North-northwest winds of 10 to 15 mph with gusts as strong as 20 mph. Mostly clear at night with a low around 37.
Monday: Sunny with a high near 55. North winds of 10 to 15 mph with gusts as high as 20 mph. Mostly clear at night with a low around 31.
Tuesday: Mostly sunny with a high near 60. Mostly clear at with a low around 40.
Wednesday: A 20 percent chance of rain with a high near 61. At night, mostly cloudy with a low around 40.
