A body was found on Sunday morning near the creek in East Austin’s Bartholomew District Park, according to Austin-Travis County EMS and the Austin Police Department, which responded to the scene.
A call about the body came in around 10:19 a.m. Captain Darren Noak, deputy public information officer for Austin-Travis County EMS, said the person was pronounced dead on the scene at 10:30 a.m.
The Austin Police Department’s Homicide Unit and the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating the death, said Austin police Detective Will Ray. It’s too early to determine if the death was suspicious, Ray said, adding that the homicide unit responds to all death calls.
Ray said the department conducted an initial investigation at the scene where the body was found and that the Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy in the next few days.
The police department did not release any further information, including whether the body had been identified. The Medical Examiner’s Office is responsible for informing next of kin when a deceased person has been identified, Ray said.
