The Pflugerville Chamber of Commerce announced this week a collaboration with local organizations to help small businesses weather financial strain caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
The Pflugerville Pfund aims to help businesses in Pflugerville with 50 or fewer full-time employees with rent, utility bills and other general expenditures. The chamber is partnering with the Pflugerville Community Development Corporation, Pflugerville Economic Foundation, Recurrent Energy and Montoya & Monzingo accounting firm, which have committed nearly $40,000 to the effort.
Chamber President Shontel Mays said the organization has seen the devastating effect the coronavirus pandemic has had on local small businesses.
“The Pflugerville Pfund was established to support our local businesses and help them through this challenging time,” she said in a news release. “We want our local businesses to know they aren’t alone, and we’re here to help.”
A fund oversight committee, which includes representatives with the chamber and other partners in the program, will review funding requests from businesses. If approved, a business could receive as much as a $5,000 grant for a 45-day period.
Mays said the program will begin funding businesses immediately “to address the urgent needs in the community.”
Mays encouraged the community to visit pfchamber.com/pflugerville-pfund and make a donation, as local small business needs far exceed the money raised so far.
The program will prioritize businesses that have been forced to close, lay off employees, limit operations or any other detrimental effects the pandemic may have caused.
