A pedestrian was killed early Wednesday in traffic on East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in East Austin, authorities said.

Austin-Travis County EMS medics and Austin firefighters responded at 5:48 a.m. to reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the 3400 block of East MLK Boulevard, just east of the intersection with Airport Boulevard.

Medics arrived and tried to perform CPR on the pedestrian but the person died at the scene.

Residual trafffic delays are expected in the area as investigators continue to work the scene.
