LBJ National Historical Park announces virtual tour

Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park has announced the debut of a new, interactive virtual tour of the first floor of the Texas White House.

The Texas White House, the name given the residence on the LBJ Ranch because of the time he spent there, has been closed since 2018 due to structural safety issues. The National Park Service has worked with a small crew from Austin 360 Photography to scan every room in great detail to provide an alternative experience during the closure.

To access the tour, visit nps.gov/lyjo.

BUDA

Buda approves electric franchise fee increase

The Buda City Council has approved a new five-year franchise agreement with Pedernales Electric Cooperative. Under the new agreement, PEC will pay a higher franchise fee to operate within the city’s right of way and other public places.

Buda now will receive a 4.5% franchise fee from PEC. The city’s last agreement was for a 50-year term. Approved in 1970, it locked the city into a 2% fee, below what other cities are able to collect. The 4.5% franchise fee is in line with surrounding cities that have negotiated new agreements in the last 10 years, officials said.

PEC will send a notice to Buda customers next week, notifying them of the franchise rate change. For a residential customer with a PEC bill of $150 per month, their bill will increase roughly $3.75 due to the additional franchise fee. The new franchise fee will be effective Jan. 1, 2021. Customers will see it on their February 2021 bills for the January 2021 usage.
