Tarrant County health officials confirmed Tuesday that a person who died Sunday tested positive for COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus. It’s the second coronavirus death in Texas.
Officials on Tuesday did not provide the victim’s age or gender, but said the person was a resident of the Texas Masonic Retirement Center in Arlington.
Officials confirmed the first death in the state due to the virus on Monday. A man in his late 90s who died Sunday tested positive for the new coronavirus, they said.
The man died at Matagorda Regional Medical Center, about 80 miles southwest of Houston, according to the Matagorda County Emergency Operation Center. He was a resident of the county.
State officials have reported 64 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Texas. Health officials in Travis County have reported 17 known cases.
