People inside a North Austin bank evacuated the building Thursday afternoon after a man entered and said he had an explosive device, Austin police said.

Police eventually took the man into custody, Austin police Officer Destiny Silva said. Investigators did not find explosives, she said.

Police responded at 2:32 p.m. to the bank on Research Boulevard, near Ohlen Road. Employees told the man to enter an office inside the bank before they exited the building, Silva said. Officers diverted traffic from Research Boulevard for several hours.

Police were able to contact the man over the phone, and he eventually came outside.

“He aggressively rushed toward a police vehicle” when he came out, but officers were able to detain him, Silva said.
