Hays County reports 1 new coronavirus death, 55 more cases – News – Austin American-Statesman

Hays County health officials on Tuesday reported that one more person in the area — a San Marcos woman who was in her 60s — has died from coronavirus-related complications.

A total of 51 residents in the county have now died from COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, since the pandemic started.

County health officials also reported 55 new cases of the coronavirus on Tuesday, bringing the total number of detected cases to 5,526. The county’s Tuesday report included data from Sept. 5 to 8. officials said.

Of the reported cases, 1,988 are considered active, officials said Tuesday.

Health officials on Tuesday said 53 more people recovered from COVID-19. The total number of recoveries is now 3,487, according to Hays County officials.

Officials also reported five new hospitalizations, adding that three people who had been hospitalized due to COVID-19 had been discharged. Out of the 158 total hospitalizations, 16 people are currently in the hospital.

Hays County Epidemiologist Eric Schneider is awaiting results on 41 tests. County health officials have reported 24,938 negative coronavirus test results as of Tuesday.

“We continue to encourage all Hays County residents to practice those simple but effective methods for slowing the spread including hand washing, wearing a mask and staying distanced from others,” Schneider said in a written statement Tuesday.

The breakdown of all 5,526 reported cases, which includes recoveries and active cases, by city is:

Driftwood: 36

Dripping Springs: 91

Kyle: 1,691

Manchaca: 9

Maxwell: 9

Mountain City: 10

Niederwald: 30

San Marcos: 2,739

Uhland: 19

Wimberley: 89

Woodcreek: 1
