Hays County health authorities on Tuesday said two more people — a San Marcos woman who was in her 80s and a woman from Wimberley who was in her 70s — have died from coronavirus-related complications.
The county’s pandemic death toll is now 104, the local health department said Tuesday.
County health authorities said they received reports of 51 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, bringing the total case count in the county to 7,429. Officials also said four people who had been in the hospital with COVID-19 were discharged, and did not report any new coronavirus-related hospitalizations.
Of the 434 county residents who have been hospitalized with COVID-19 during the pandemic, 12 were in medical facilities on Tuesday, according to local health authorities.
County health authorities added that 102 more people had recovered from the virus, and the total estimated number of recoveries is now 6,606.
Hays County health officials also said they have now received 52,059 negative coronavirus test results.
The local health department in Hays County has corrected its data several times since the start of the pandemic and recently has said it will now review its data each week, making necessary updates to its online dashboards each Friday. The American-Statesman will report changes in its Friday coronavirus reports.
Hays County Epidemiologist Eric Schneider on Tuesday urged residents to follow pandemic-related safety protocols amid the holiday season.
“As the holidays approach we want to keep encouraging the community to wear masks, wash your hands and to stay home if possible,” Schneider said in a written statement. “Doing these things not only protect you but can protect those around you.”
