ROUND ROCK The city of Georgetown closed the public library, most Parks and Recreation facilities and the Visitor’s Center on Monday evening until further notice to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus, according to a city news release.

No cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Williamson County as of Monday.

The city has also rescheduled the Red Poppy Festival to October 23-25.

The closures are in response to Williamson County’s ban on gatherings of 50 or more people, which was announced Monday afternoon and will continue until May 11 unless officials end it.

The Georgetown City Council is also holding a special meeting at 4 p.m. Thursday to extend the city’s disaster declaration until April 14, the date of the first regular City Council meeting that month.

“We are doing everything we can now to prepare for the reality of confirmed cases in Georgetown and are following county, state and national guidelines to reduce the spread of COVID-19 by minimizing large, social gatherings,” said Georgetown Mayor Dale Ross.

The Caring Place, a Georgetown nonprofit organization that operates thrift stores and a food pantry, also announced closures Monday. All volunteers of the Caring Place were asked not to report to their assignments until further notice.

Both thrift stores, The Shops at The Caring Place located at 2000 Railroad Avenue in Georgetown and Second Helping at 3700 Williams Drive in Georgetown, are closed until further notice, according to a new release from the organization.

The donations drive-thru at 2000 Railroad Avenue for The Caring Place is also closed until further notice and item pickups are suspended. People are asked not to leave items for The Caring Place.

Programs and services at the Caring Place’s address at 2001 Railroad Avenue are also closed until further notice, the release said.

The organization’s food pantry will operate out of the donations-drive through from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2000 Railroad Ave.

The group’s Daily Bread program is also discontinued at this time.
