As the new coronavirus has reached Austin – with the city’s first three cases reported Friday – numerous events and gatherings have been affected as organizers move to halt the spread of COVID-19.
Here’s what has been canceled or closed:
LARGE AUSTIN-AREA EVENTS: Cancellations include South by Southwest, the Austin Rodeo, Luck Reunion, Dell Match Play and events at the Frank Erwin Center and Bass Concert Hall.
CENTRAL TEXAS SCHOOL DISTRICTS: The Austin district canceled classes March 13, a day before spring break started. Other districts canceled some activities, and IDEA Public Schools is extending spring break through March 27.
AREA UNIVERSITIES: The University of Texas, St. Edward’s University, Austin Community College and Concordia University all canceled classes March 13. Both UT and ACC have extended their spring breaks by an extra week.
COLLEGE SPORTS: The Big 12 has suspended all activities until March 29.
HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS: The University Scholastic League has suspended all sanctioned events through at least March 29.
CONCERTS: Barracuda has canceled all shows through March 23, and many groups have also shelved upcoming performances.
