SOUTH AUSTIN

Zilker Holiday Tree lighting to be screened virtually

The Zilker Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony will be broadcast at 6 p.m. Sunday on various virtual formats due to COVID-19 gathering restrictions.

The video will be shared on the ATXN YouTube Channel, facebook.com/austintexasgov, instagram.com/austintexas.gov, ATXN.tv, Spectrum Channel 6, Grande Communications Channel 6 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99.

The tree will be lit nightly from 6 p.m. to midnight Nov. 29 through Jan. 1 at Zilker Metropolitan Park, though no onsite access is allowed this year. Viewing of the tree is allowed only while inside a vehicle from the roadway.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY

Be a Santa to a Senior program seeking donations

The Home Instead Senior Care office, serving North Austin, Round Rock and Sun City, is seeking donations for seniors through its Be a Santa to a Senior program.

Home Instead is teaming up with Amazon Business to create a contactless gift-giving experience for volunteers and recipients. Home Instead will collect gifts for area seniors through Dec. 15 via online shopping through Amazon and at trees inside area Walmart locations at 1548 FM 685 in Pflugerville, 4700 E. Palm Valley Blvd. in Round Rock and 620 Interstate 35 in Georgetown.

The store trees will be decorated with paper ornaments featuring seniors’ first names and their desired gifts. Holiday shoppers can choose an ornament, buy the requested gift and return it to the store, unwrapped, with the ornament attached.

Shoppers can also visit beasantatoasenior.com, enter their zip code and view wish lists for local seniors.

BUDA

Budafest Holiday Tour replaces traditional festival

The city of Buda will celebrate a spinoff of Budafest called the Budafest Holiday Tour featuring holiday activities Dec. 4 to 12.

Activities include free art classes, drive-in movies, video calls with Santa Claus, Santa Claus neighborhood drive-thrus, a fireworks show, Budafest Restaurant Week and Budafest Holiday Shopping.

Residents can add their homes as an official Budafest Wonder to be added to the holiday lights tour map.

CENTRAL TEXAS

Arc to host virtual art auction fundraiser

The Arc of the Capital Area will host its Virtual Art Auction: The Arc’s Art Celebration beginning at 8 p.m. Dec. 3. Bidding opened Thursday.

Tickets may be purchased for $25, which will also enter the attendee in a raffle to win a $2,500 Visa gift card. A brief online program will include Fund-A-Need opportunities, culminating in the raffle drawing, where the winner must be present online to win.

Proceeds will benefit The Arc, supporting those with intellectual and developmental disabilities affected by COVID-19.
