HAYS COUNTY

Hays County approves COVID-19 relief program

The Hays County Commissioners Court recently approved an agenda item sponsored by Judge Ruben Becerra that will provide financial relief for residents of Hays County during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Applications will be accepted until Dec. 22. Officials said a link to more information and the grant application will be on the Hays County website and social media in the coming weeks.

The Hays County COVID-19 Relief Program will be administered by Hays County and Blanco River Regional Recovery Team to provide assistance with mortgage, rent, utility payments and child care to residents of Hays County who can show COVID-related job loss, job reduction, or inability to work.

Hays County will collaborate with community-based organizations to aid Hays County residents. Grant applications will be evaluated based on need and awarded funds will range from $500 to $5,000.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY

Interstate 35 lanes to close this week

Lanes on Interstate 35 north of Williams Drive in Georgetown will close nightly Tuesday through Thursday.

The lane closures for the Northwest Boulevard bridge construction will start each night at 9 p.m. and lanes will reopen to traffic the next morning at 5 a.m., weather permitting.

One northbound mainl ane and two southbound lanes will be closed nightly for the construction of a concrete barrier on I-35. Road signs have been placed to alert drivers of the closures.

The Northwest Boulevard bridge will be a new east-west connection spanning I-35 and an alternative to Williams Drive. The project connects Rivery Boulevard to the west and FM 971 to the east and is scheduled to be complete in early 2021.

AUSTIN

Steve Adler to host disability town hall

Mayor Steve Adler, the mayor’s Committee for People with Disabilities and the Office of Police Oversight, and the Equity Office will host a forum from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday to hear the experience of people with disabilities with public safety in Austin.

Community members are asked to share their experiences to help create a more equitable community for Austin residents. Registration to the Zoom meeting is required; visit bit.ly/2HaMdG6 to sign up.

BUDA

Buda Trail of Lights starts this weekend

The 12th annual Buda Trail of Lights Drive-Thru will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 10 to 13m and Dec, 17 to 20 at Stagecoach Park, 880 Main St.

The event features lighted and decorated displays that are provided by local businesses and organizations for visitors to view as they drive through the display.
