SOUTHEAST AUSTIN

Montopolis Recreation and Community Center reaches completion

The newly redeveloped Montopolis Recreation and Community Center recently reached substantial completion.

The new facility replaces the former recreation and community center, which served the community for more than four decades. The new facility provides 33,000 square feet of new space, recreational uses, public health services, educational programming areas and a commercial kitchen.

For the health and safety of residents, the new building is not yet open for public use.

CEDRA PARK

Cedar Park Blue Santa seek money, food donations

Organizers for Cedar Park Blue Santa, sponsored by the Cedar Park Police Department, are seeking donations that will provide gifts to local children in need.

Donations must be received by Dec. 7.

To limit physical contact with donated items, police are encouraging monetary and gift card donations this year. Cash, gift cards or checks may be dropped off at the Police Department, and gift cards and checks made payable to the CPCPAAA can be mailed to CPCPAAA, ATTN: Blue Santa Program, C/O Cedar Park Police Department, 911 Quest Parkway, Cedar Park, TX 78613.

Canned food items will also be collected this year to benefit local nonprofit Gracie’s Canned Goods. The food will be distributed with toys to help families create a traditional holiday meal. Drop-off locations for canned goods are the Cedar Park Recreation Center, 1435 Main St., and the Cedar Park Public Library, 550 Discovery Blvd.

Toys will be distributed from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 19.

BUDA

Buda to broadcast holiday tree lighting

The city of Buda will broadcast its downtown tree lighting ceremony starting at 5:45 p.m. Saturday on Facebook Live.

The event will feature musical performances, a Santa singalong, a speech from newly elected Mayor Lee Urbanovsky and the ceremonial tree lighting at 6 p.m.

EAST AUSTIN

City to hold virtual meeting on Colony Loop

The Austin Economic Development Department and Corridor Mobility Program will hold a online meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday about the Colony Loop Drive Project.

Over the past two years, city staff has worked to design the missing link of Colony Loop Drive to connect the existing East Austin communities of Colony Park and Lakeside.

During the virtual meeting, attendees will have an opportunity to view proposed improvements, provide feedback and learn next steps from the project team.
