Comal County officials on Wednesday reported the county’s fourth death — the second death in one family within a week — linked to the coronavirus. The woman who died was the wife of a Bulverde man in his 80s who also passed from the virus this week.
Health officials Wednesday morning said the woman, who was also in her 80s, died from COVID-19, the illness associated with the coronavirus, over the weekend in her home. An autopsy confirmed the virus to be the cause of death Thursday morning, officials said.
Her husband died from the virus at a hospital overnight Wednesday, officials said.
“We continue to mourn the loss of these members of our community, and continue to pray for their loved ones,” said County Judge Sherman Krause in a statement Thursday. “Social distancing remains our best and most effective tool to prevent these losses, and we continue to remind everyone to do everything they can to slow and stop the spread of COVID-19.”
In addition, Comal County officials Thursday reported five new cases of the coronavirus.
Thursday’s reported death was the 34th confirmed coronavirus case in the county as of Thursday morning. The other four new cases include one person near Spring Branch, one in New Braunfels and another in Fair Oaks Ranch.
Another of Thursday’s confirmed cases has a post office box within the county, so the Office of Public Health is working to identify that person’s home address.
Two of the patients are under 18 and one is in their 40s, health officials said. All are self isolated in their homes, officials said.
Comal County had 80 results pending and 16 recoveries as of Thursday afternoon.
