City suspends

utility disconnects

The city of Austin has suspended all utility disconnects for nonpayment in the wake of the coronavius pandemic.

As the community comes together to respond to the concerns of COVID-19, the city has taken steps to ensure customers have uninterrupted access to utility services.

Austin Energy, which manages customer care and billing for all city of Austin utilities, also offers several programs that help customers stay on track with their utility bills. Customers can be placed on a deferred payment plan. Limited income customers and medically vulnerable customers may receive assistance through the Customer Assistance Programs.

Residential and commercial customers can contact the Customer Care Contact Center at 512-494-9400 with any questions. Payments can be made in-person at walk-in payment locations, but customers are encouraged to use alternative options to make payments, including mailing a check, paying by phone or paying at coautilities.com.

DOWNTOWN AUSTIN

22 blocks of bus lanes

painted red for visibility

In partnership with Capital Metro, the city of Austin has completed painting 22 blocks of transit priority lanes red downtown, between Third and 17th streets on Guadalupe Street and Third and 15th streets on Lavaca Street.

The new red bus lanes are part of Capital Metro’s Transit Speed and Reliability program, a partnership with the Austin Transportation Department to design solutions that make transit operate more efficiently and reliably through congested areas.

Austin Transportation crews began painting transit priority lanes red in late January. As part of this project, Public Works crews repaired portions of damaged asphalt along these lanes. The red paint increases clarity of lane use for all road users, improving overall safety and traffic flow.
