to close for cleaning

Barton Springs Pool will be closed from Saturday to March 13 for its annual spring cleaning; it is expected to reopen March 14.

During this closure, some gravel will be removed from the pool in an effort to return the pool to its natural depth. Access to “dog beach” will be limited as the area will be a staging place for gravel removal equipment.

Deep Eddy Pool, 401 Deep Eddy Drive, will open at 6 a.m. beginning Saturday to accommodate early morning swimmers while Barton Springs Pool is closed.

Museum to host

community bus tour

The Neill-Cochran House Museum, 2310 San Gabriel St., will host a community bus tour and shoebox picnic Saturday, with tour times at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Attendees will learn more about Austin’s history and connect the dots between the lives of the black and white founders of Austin, including the Wheatville and Clarksville freedman communities and Gov. Pease’s mansion.

Attendees will enjoy a traveler’s shoebox feast, reminiscent of the meals packed for black travelers by their families during the Jim Crow era when black people were denied service at restaurants.

Tickets cost $40. For tickets: bit.ly/38VGdtN.
