Austin’s social service agencies can now apply to help distribute $15 million in emergency funds to residents suffering financially during the coronavirus pandemic, city officials announced Wednesday.

The Relief in a State of Emergency funding, also known as RISE funds, were approved by council members in an April 9 resolution.

“Austin Public Health is partnering with social services agencies to ensure funds are distributed equitably and help vulnerable Austinites impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic,” the statement from the city said.

Austin Public Health officials said they anticipate awarding multiple agreements with a minimum request of $250,000 and a maximum request of up to $2 million to local agencies. Smaller amounts may be considered for smaller nonprofit organizations, officials said.

Residents who want to apply for the funds must be:

Under 200% of federal poverty level

· Directly affected by COVID-19 (ineligible for unemployment or applied for unemployment but awaiting a check)

· Ineligible for CARES Act funding

Local social service groups who want to help distribute the money must be a registered vendor with the City of Austin and submit applications through Austin Public Health’s PartnerGrants, the statement from the city said.

Those groups can now apply to distribute the funds at www.AustinTexas.gov/RISE.
