Aquatics Division

seeking lifeguards

The Austin Parks and Recreation Department’s Aquatic Division is needing more than 500 lifeguards to reach its goal of 750 by May and is offering scholarships for the training course.

The Aquatic Division is hosting classes over spring break and is offering training scholarships to those who qualify. Anyone interested in becoming a lifeguard can apply in person from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Aquatic Division office, 2818 San Gabriel St.; at the March Hiring Day set for noon to 4 p.m. March 28 at Springwoods Pool, 13320 Lyndhurst St.; or at lifeguardaustin.com.

Applicants who are 15-16 are required to have a parent present during the interview. Seventeen-year-old applicants require parent signatures on the applicant paperwork.

The starting pay is $15 per hour with no experience necessary. In addition to the pay, staff members receive free bus passes, have flexible schedules and get to work outside.

GEORGETOWN

Rescue at the Ranch

takes place Tuesday

The Rescue at the Ranch event, which will give visitors an opportunity to meet dogs up for adoption from the Georgetown Animal Shelter and check out the Garey Park Dog Ranch, 6450 RM 2243, will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Tuesday is the chance for guests to explore all that Garey Park has to offer, including the Dog Ranch, a 4.5-acre fenced natural space dog park.

There is no entry fee to Garey Park on Tuesday as part of the park’s free Tuesdays through the end of March.

AUSTIN

Middle school students

to create PSA videos

Austin Public Works’ Safe Routes to School Program is inviting seventh and eighth graders in Austin to showcase their talent in the inaugural Lights, Camera, Safety PSA Contest.

To enter, students create a short film that promotes ways to be safe while walking and biking. Winners will receive Alamo Drafthouse gift cards, and their videos will be shown in middle schools across Austin. Videos can be in any format.

Submissions are open through March 30. Winners of the competition will be announced May 20.

GEORGETOWN

Spring teen party

Friday at Rec Center

Georgetown Parks and Recreation will host its Pop into Spring Teen Party for ages 12-15 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Friday at the Recreation Center, 1003 N. Austin Ave.

The party will include pizza, drinks, snacks, games, music and door prizes. The event is free for recreation center members or $5 for nonmembers.
