Wednesday forecast for Austin: OK, so it didn’t freeze last night, but it’s still pretty darn cold outside!
Temperatures at Camp Mabry, site of Austin’s main weather station, remained in the 40s overnight, with a reading of 48 degrees at 7 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.
But Wednesday should have partly sunny skies that will gradually become sunnier, boosting temperatures to a more seasonable high of 62 degrees.
But a cold front will be heralded by north-northwest winds of 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon and gusts as strong as 20 mph, forecasters say.
The passage of the cold front should leave Wednesday night skies mostly clear and allow temperatures to sink to as low as 38 degrees. But the north-northwest winds of around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph, will make outside feel even colder.
The weather service’s extended forecast includes more gusty wind and lots of sunshine:
Thursday: Sunny with a high near 55. North-northwest winds of 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Thursday night will be partly cloudy with a low around 34.
Friday: Sunny with a high near 59. Mostly clear at night with a low around 36.
Saturday: Sunny with a high near 66. Mostly clear at night with a low around 39.
Sunday: Mostly sunny with a high near 66. Partly cloudy at night with a low around 39.
Monday: Sunny with a high near 65. Mostly clear at night with a low around 38.
