The two people whose bodies were found earlier this week during a search for a pair of canoeists last seen in the Colorado River in eastern Travis County have been identified.

The man and the woman have been identified as Rafael Luna, whose age was not provided by authorities, of Veracruz, Mexico, and Eva Cruz-Ramon, 54, of Austin, the Travis County sheriff’s office said Thursday.

Austin rescue crews around 8 p.m. on Monday received reports that “a male and a female in a canoe had capsized, were seen in distress, then went under the water,” according to the sheriff’s office.

Rescue crews were unable to find the missing pair on Monday, and resumed their search Tuesday morning, when Cruz-Ramon’s body was found.

Luna’s body was found around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office and the Travis County medical examiner’s office is conducting an investigation for the official cause and manner of death for the two people.
