A four-hour SWAT standoff Friday night at an East Austin mobile home park ended in the arrest of a man on charges of aggravated assault, Austin police said.

Authorities were called to Bel-Aire Mobile Home Park in the 800 block of Airport Boulevard at around 10:40 p.m. after a 60-year-old man said he was assaulted by a family member, according to Austin police.

The family member, a man in his mid-20s, ran inside the East Austin home to grab a shotgun following the assault, authorities said.

Police tried to get the man to surrender, but SWAT was eventually called in when he wouldn’t respond to commands to walk outside the home, police said.

The SWAT team worked for about four hours to make contact with the man, authorities said. However, the man at some point managed to leave the home.

The man was later arrested about one mile from the home on Ed Bluestein Boulevard after he approached an officer, according to police. The man, who was wearing only pants, told the officer he was assaulted at the same address as where the standoff was happening.

The man, who was unarmed, was detained and eventually arrested on charges of aggravated assault, authorities said. Police has not released identified the man.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
