Investigators think a 70-year-old woman found dead in Manchaca, south of Austin, may be the victim of a homicide, authorities said late Friday.
Travis County sheriff’s deputies responded at 9:53 a.m. on April 16 to reports of dead person in the 600 block of Hickory Ridge
The person found unresponsive in a front yard was identified by authorities as Janice Hughes of Manchaca. She was pronounced dead at 10:01 am.
“Nothing about the scene or the body appeared suspicious as there was no notable evidence of trauma,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement Friday.
An autopsy performed a week later determined that Hughes did not die of natural causes, so the sheriff’s office began a homicide investigation.
More information will be released as the case develops, authorities said.
