Deputy burned during vehicle rescue, 2 killed, authorities say

A sheriff’s deputy was burned while rescuing a passenger from a deadly vehicle wreck but he has been released from the hospital, Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody said Wednesday.

Two men were killed in the crash between a van and a cement truck about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hesters Crossing and County Road 172, Chody said.

The two men who died were both in the van, Chody said. One was a passenger who was pulled out of the burning van by a deputy but later died at a hospital.

The deputy has significant burns to eight of his fingers and burns to his hands and one of his arms, Chody said.

“Prayers for all involved at the scene today,” the sheriff said via Twitter.
