A vigil has been organized in remembrance of Heidi Broussard, the woman who was strangled to death in a suspected plot to kidnap her newborn.

The vigil is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday at Garrison Park, 6001 Menchaca Road, in South Austin, according to an organizer. The event will be guided by Eric Bryant of Gateway Church, and attendees are asked to bring candles.

“We will also organize a few more between now and January 11th – which will be more of a memorial for her!” the organizer, Sarra Sarai, said on Facebook. “So, if you can’t make this one, that’s okay. There’ll be another.”

Broussard’s body was found Friday by police in the trunk of a car parked in Houston. The discovery marked the end of a missing person’s case that had confounded police since she was last seen dropping her son off at a South Austin elementary school on the morning of Dec. 12.

Austin and Houston police officials have said discoveries in the case point toward a plot to kill Broussard and kidnap her newborn, Margot Carey. An infant believed to be Margot was found alive at the home where Broussard’s body was found, officials said. Authorities are waiting for DNA testing to officially confirm the baby’s identity.

The woman thought to be connected to Broussard’s death and the kidnapping of her infant daughter, Magen Rose Fieramusca, is in custody at the Travis County Jail. Fieramusca, 33, was arrested Friday in Houston and was charged with two counts of kidnapping and one count of tampering with a corpse.

Authorities would not confirm the suspect’s identity, citing a need to protect the integrity of the investigation.
