Williamson County and the cities of Cedar Park and Taylor are closing their parks and trails during the Easter weekend, according to press releases. The parks and trails will be closed from sunset on Thursday until sunrise on April 13, the releases said.

“The safety and welfare of our citizens is of utmost importance right now,” said Williamson County Parks and Recreation Director Russell Fishbeck.

“Parks are popular places and the crowds we typically see on holidays, like Easter weekend, leave minimal opportunity to practice social distancing. The health risks are just too great not to close our parks and trails,” he said.

The gates at the following county locations will be closed, locked, and barricaded.

· Berry Springs Park & Preserve, 1801 Co Rd 152, Georgetown

· Champion Park, 3830 Brushy Creek Rd, Cedar Park

· Southwest Williamson County Regional Park, 219 Perry Mayfield, Leander

There also will be signage at those locations and at various access points along Brushy Creek Regional Trail to remind residents that access is prohibited, according to the county’s press release.

It said staff from the parks will be patrolling these areas during the weekend.

Cedar Park also is closing its parks and trails during the Easter weekend.

The gates at the following locations also will be closed, locked and barricaded:

· Veterans Memorial Park

· Elizabeth Milburn Park

· Brushy Creek Lake Park

· Brushy Creek Sports Park

Neighborhood and pocket parks in Cedar Park also will be closed, said the press release from the city.

“The decision to close our parks and trails weighed heavily on us,” said Cedar Park Parks and Recreation Director Curt Randa.

“But the health risks are just too great when it comes to the potential of having a large number of people in our parks during Easter weekend. The health and safety of our citizens is our top priority, and by closing our parks and trails we are reducing these points of exposure.”

Cedar Park Parks staff on duty will be patrolling these areas throughout the closure, the release said.
