Williamson County is searching for volunteers to sew masks for first responders and other groups to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

District Court Judge Donna King is leading a mask brigade to help support first responders, medical professionals, and other people who may be dealing with the ongoing supply shortage of personal protective equipment, according to a news release Monday. The brigade is working in partnership with Reid’s cleaners.

“We are calling on anyone with experience as an embroiderer or a seamster, or with sewing experience, or who might be handy with a pair of scissors to pitch in and help out,” King said.

There are two models of masks being accepted. The first is the COVID Ranger Mask, designed to go over the N95 mask — a vital protective device being used by medical professionals — to extend the number of times it can be used, the release said.

The second model, the Pleated Pattern Mask, is for officials to distribute to other groups distribution to other identified groups.

“The Wilco Way is all about stepping up and helping others and joining the Mask Brigade is one way for our talented residents to do just that,” said County Judge Bill Gravell.

“I am grateful to Judge King for leading this effort, and I invite our amazing Williamson County residents to join her,” he added.

More information about the mask brigade is at www.wilco.org/howcanIhelp. Volunteers can also email organizers at COVID-19Masks@wilco.org for more information.
