ACC campuses remain

closed until May 31

Austin Community College will remain closed until May 31 and will offer a pass/no-pass option for students this spring semester in response to coronavirus.

ACC President/CEO Richard Rhodes signed an emergency order to approve the change Tuesday.

The college remains closed to students and the public in an effort to limit the number of people on campus to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 within the community. Most courses transitioned to online formats beginning Monday. All face-to-face courses and services are suspended for the semester.

Students may choose a pass/no-pass option after receiving grades at the end of the semester. They will have until May 29 to elect a pass/no-pass grade in lieu of an A, B, C, D or F letter grade. Students are encouraged to meet virtually with their ACC adviser for one-on-one support.

Grocery delivery

program launched

Austin Transportation’s smart mobility office has partnered with Good Apple to launch the Stay Home, Stay Healthy grocery delivery program during COVID-19 mitigation.

This program provides free, convenient access to healthy food for people at risk throughout Travis County, with a focus on historically underserved communities in East Austin.

Good Apple sources produce and pantry staples from local farms and food pantries. Teams of healthy volunteers, in groups of fewer than 10, pack food relief boxes and deliver them to the homes of people in need via no-contact drop-offs. Each relief box contains enough food to last one person for one week and replaces a trip to the grocery store.

To help, residents can refer someone they know who is 55 and older or immunocompromised and in need of food assistance and direct them to the program application form at bit.ly/2JrZicb. To volunteer, join the mailing list at GoodAppleFoods.com to stay updated on opportunities to pack and deliver boxes.
