A part-time music teacher at a charter school in Round Rock has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, an official said.
Meridian Charter School sent out a letter to parents Thursday saying the man is isolated at home recovering and has not been hospitalized.
He is a part-time band teacher who worked with a handful of students at the secondary school level, school spokeswoman Jessica Boese said Friday.
She said officials do not think the teacher was sick when he was working with students.
The letter that Meridian sent to parents Thursday also said a high school student, who was not in contact with the band teacher, was ill and had been hospitalized.
“We understand she has been tested, but the results are not yet in,” the letter said. “We have another staff member who was ill, tested, and determined to be negative. We urge everyone to follow the guidelines for social distancing and hand washing to protect yourselves, your families, and your community.”
The school, at 2555 Interstate 35 North in Round Rock, is closed and plans to offer online classes to students beginning on Monday, the letter said.
Meridian is a tuition-free charter school which has about 1,650 students in kindergarten through 12th grade, according to its website.
