An American Airlines pilot based in Dallas-Fort Worth has tested positive for the new coronavirus, the company said Thursday.
The company’s chief medical officer and airline leaders have been in touch with the pilot, American Airlines officials said. The company said it’s in close contact with the Centers for Disease Control as well as other public health officials, and airline officials are “coordinating with them on all required health and safety measures,” according to a statement.
The risk of transmission to passengers is low, American Airline officials said.
As of Thursday, no cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Travis County.
Texas officials say 23 people, not including the pilot, have tested positive for the virus so far. More than half of the confirmed cases are in the Houston area, including eight cases in Harris County, six in Fort Bend County and one in Montgomery County, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.
