AUSTIN

Municipal Court

moving this month

The Austin Municipal Court will move this month from its main downtown Austin location at 700 E. Seventh Street to a new site in Southeast Austin.

The long-awaited move follows significant health, safety and space issues with the aging building.

The city of Austin’s long-term plan is to establish two new, permanent court locations — one in North Austin and one in South Austin. While those locations are being found and developed, a 10-year lease has been taken in Bergstrom Tech Center, 6800 Burleson Road, Building 310, Suite 175, as a temporary solution.

The downtown location will close permanently March 18. Court services will be closed March 19-20 to accommodate the move, before the new location opens March 23. The opening hours for the new court will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays and 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursdays.

SOUTHWEST AUSTIN

Work begins Monday

on Southwest Parkway

The city of Austin’s contractor will begin street improvements to a segment of Southwest Parkway on Monday. The project is expected to take six to eight weeks to complete, weather permitting.

Work will consist of surface milling, asphalt overlay, striping and installation of traffic signal loop indicators. The improvements will provide enhanced safety and pavement quality for drivers.

The limits of the project are both eastbound and westbound lanes on Southwest Parkway from the MoPac Boulevard (Loop 1) service road to Mission Oaks Boulevard.

Work hours will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays-Fridays and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays-Sundays. Lane closures will not always be in effect during these times.
