Learn to leave no trace

in Barton Creek greenbelt

The Austin Parks and Recreation Department is partnering with the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics to offer opportunities for the community to learn about outdoor ethics and volunteer at clean-up sites along the Barton Creek greenbelt.

Leave No Trace recently named the Barton Creek greenbelt one of 14 Hot Spots around the nation. Hot Spot locations are popular outdoor areas that are heavily used and have visitor-created impacts, such as litter, pet waste and trail damage. The department is working with local groups to help raise awareness about outdoor recreation ethics in natural areas.

Opportunities to become involved include Leave No Trace climbing from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, a Leave No Trace salamander walk from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, and a Leave No Trace bird walk from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday.
