The Del Valle school board on Monday named Annette Tielle, who has been serving as the district’s interim superintendent since June, as the lone finalist to serve permanently as the district’s new leader.

As the lone finalist for the job, Tielle is all but guaranteed to become the district’s next superintendent. By law, trustees must wait 21 days before offering a candidate a contract.

Before selecting Tielle — who formerly went by the name Annette Villerot — trustees met with consultants and community groups to determine criteria to select a new superintendent, according to a news release from the district.

“After a nationwide search, our board unanimously agreed to identify Dr. Tielle as the lone finalist for superintendent,” Board President Rebecca Birch said in a statement Monday. “We believe her proven leadership and expansive knowledge of our district, combined with her ability to develop relations with students, staff and the community make her the right fit to lead the district.”

Trustees named Tielle as the district’s acting superintendent in June after then Superintendent Kelly Crook made her departure. Tielle then became the interim superintendent in July.

Crook served as the superintendent for eight years and was earning an annual base salary of $223,326. She left her position with four years left on her contract.

Tielle has 28 years of experience in education, according to the district’s website. She was formerly the assistant superintendent of curriculum at the Comal and Pflugerville districts. She graduated from the Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, obtained a master’s degree at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania and received a doctorate from the Cooperative Superintendency Program at the University of Texas in Austin, the website says.
