Williamson County reported one new coronavirus death and an increase of 1,044 known coronavirus cases over a six-day period from Tuesday to Sunday. The total number of confirmed cases in the county is now 13,301.

The total number of cases include 163 deaths and an estimated 12,437 recoveries as of Monday. Fifty-six people were in the hospital for COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, on Monday.

The 1,044 new confirmed cases include 191 cases on Tuesday, 129 cases on Wednesday and 65 cases on Thursday. They also include 218 cases on Friday, 256 cases on Saturday and 185 cases on Sunday.

The new confirmed cases only include cases that were electronically reported. Cases that were called in or faxed over the six-day period will be reported on Tuesday, according to a report on Monday from the Williamson County and Cities Health District. The health district was closed on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday.

It recommended in its report on Monday that people who participated in a gathering over the Thanksgiving holiday be tested three to five days after the gathering ended and to stay home for seven days.

“The effect of gatherings will not be known for a few weeks,” the report said.

The health district’s report said the rate of spread of coronavirus in the county “is on par to be a much bigger wave.”

“We should expect to see increasing hospitalizations and eventually deaths in subsequent ’waves’ in the coming weeks,” the report said.

Round Rock has the most number of confirmed cases in the county with 3,904, including 3,736 recoveries. Georgetown had the second-highest number of confirmed cases with 2,622, including 2,414 estimated recoveries.

The county reported 178,719 tests done as of Monday, or 30.53% of the population, with a rolling seven-day average positivity rate of 8.15%. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has classified coronavirus hotspots as areas with a positivity rate of 5% or higher.

Williamson County residents can get free coronavirus tests daily in Georgetown north of the library parking lot at 402 W. Eighth St. Registration is required before visiting the testing booth. To complete the required pre-registration, visit bit.ly/3lmJCrp.
