Austin Independent School District on Sunday announced locations and hours for post-Thanksgiving coronavirus testing.

The district will offer district-wide, drive-thru rapid testing for COVID-19, available to all on-campus students and staff, from Wednesday through Friday. Last week, Superintendent Stephanie S. Elizalde said that the district would work with Austin Public Health to provide the tests for students, staff and family members, with details to come by the end of the weekend.

The district’s testing sites will be at Burger Stadium, Dobie Middle School, Mendez Middle School, Navarro Early College High School, Northeast Early College High School and Travis Early College High School. All testing sites will be open at the following times: 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday.

The tests are intended to help minimize the spread of the coronavirus after the Thanksgiving holiday. All Austin schools will be remote for the upcoming week for the same reason.

Testing is strongly recommended for those that are showing COVID-19 symptoms; have had close contact with someone who is positive or showing symptoms for COVID-19; and for anyone who recently traveled for the holidays, according to a news release from the district.

Those who plan to get tested must register and then bring a completed child/student or adult/staff consent form; a student or employee ID; a driver’s license or state ID, if applicable; and a mask. The forms are available at the district’s website. A parent or guardian must be present for the test if a student is under 18 years old, unless the student has a fully completed consent form. The forms are available both in English and in Spanish.

In addition to testing for on-campus students and staff, representatives from Austin Public Health will be at Burger Stadium and Northeast Early College High School during testing hours to administer a limited number of COVID-19 tests to household members of students’ families; those who want a test must register by 5 p.m. on Nov. 30.

For virtual students and employees and those that are getting tested at other locations and also want family members to get tested, tests can be scheduled on the same days with Austin Public Health by visiting COVID19.AustinTexas.gov or by calling 512-972-5560.
