Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell has been cited for violating his own “stay home” order this spring by attending a family birthday party and will plead guilty and pay a $1,000 fine, his attorney said Tuesday.

Gravell was captured on a neighbor’s camera arriving at the event at the home of a family member wearing fire department protective equipment.

The incident led to a criminal complaint, the appointment of a special prosecutor and an investigation by the Texas Rangers.

Attorney Bill Hines, who represents Gravell, said his client is the only person in the county to be prosecuted for the infraction and that Gravell was cleared by the Rangers of any other wrongdoing.

Gravell could not immediately be reached for comment, nor could Milam County District Attorney Bill Torrey, who acted as a special prosecutor in the matter.
