A man was arrested after being accused of groping an underage girl and exposing himself to her at a North Austin apartment laundry facility Wednesday evening, according to an arrest affidavit.
Police responded to a call from a man who reported that the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Robert Paul Palmer, touched his younger sister at the laundry facility at the Remington House Apartments, 600 Barwood Park, at 8 p.m. Wednesday, the affidavit said.
The victim, who is under 17, told police that when she arrived at the laundromat, she saw Palmer sleeping on a counter normally used to fold clothes. according to the affidavit.
The victim said she started to put her laundry in the washer when Palmer approached her from behind and groped her. The girl said Palmer then pressed his genitals against her and exposed them to her, the affidavit said.
The victim said she told Palmer to stop three times and then ran home.
After she told her brother what happened, the affidavit said, the brother told police he went to the laundromat and confronted Palmer, who then left. It said the brother and another relative detained Palmer until police arrived.
While being detained by police, Palmer denied the allegations against him, the document said.
Palmer was arrested and charged with indecency with a child by contact, a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
