A 42-year-old man was arrested and charged with first-degree murder after an altercation in Buda on Friday, during which he reportedly shot and killed his father, according to the Hays County sheriff’s office.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to a family violence disturbance call at a house on Shale Circle in Buda on Saturday afternoon and arrived to find 65-year-old Darrell Thierry dead in the living room.
Witnesses told deputies that Thierry and his son Damien Montague Roberts had an argument that turned physical, at which point Roberts retrieved a handgun from a bedroom at the house and shot Thierry multiple times. Both men were visiting from out of town, according to the sheriff’s office.
Roberts attempted to escape custody by pushing through deputies at the scene but he was secured after a brief struggle and arrested at the house. In addition to the first-degree murder charge, Roberts was also charged with third-degree attempted escape from custody while confined.
He was released to jail personnel at the Hays County jail and is awaiting magistration.
