City hosting talks

on homelessness

The city of Austin will host panel discussions on the topic of homelessness in Austin at noon Wednesday and Saturday at ATXN 1 and at facebook.com/austintexasgov.

A panel was held Monday on “Understanding the Crisis and How We Got Here,” featuring leaders from Austin Public Health, SAFE, Integral Care and LifeWorks.

The Wednesday panel, “What’s Happening – Programs in Action,” will feature leaders from ECHO, the Other Ones Foundation, Homeless Outreach Street Team and the city’s office of sustainability. The Friday panel, “Innovations and What’s on the Horizon,” will feature leaders from Mobile Loaves and Fishes, Family Eldercare, the University of Texas School of Pharmacy and the city.

AUSTIN

City names new

code director

The city of Austin has named José G. Roig as the code director, beginning his new duties Nov. 23.

The code director is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating code compliance to secure and maintain city code regulations as they relate to housing standards, vacant lots, salvage yards and other zoning restrictions.

Roig currently serves as the interim director for the code department.

HAYS COUNTY

Work completed

on low-water crossing

Hays County has completed the $1.15 million reconstruction of the second low-water crossing in the Chaparral Park subdivision, a project that is part of the 2016 voter-approved road bond.

The purpose of the project was to install new box culverts and increase the height of the bridge by 2 feet to reduce the likelihood of flooding in this location. The project also improved 352 linear feet of road.

The work was part of several low-water crossings countywide being addressed with funding from the 2016 Road Bond.

GEORGETOWN

City to collect

hazardous waste

Georgetown will host a household hazardous waste collection event from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the old show barn in San Gabriel Park, 425 E. Morrow St.

The city will offer 300 vouchers for the event available to Georgetown solid waste customers who have solid waste service through Texas Disposal Systems. Customers must have a voucher to participate.

Acceptable items include batteries, pool/spa chemicals, used oil, oil filters, transmission fluid, light bulbs, grease, thermometers, home/garden chemicals, aerosols, art/hobby chemicals, paint and gasoline. Limits are up to 5 gallons per vehicle for used oil and gasoline and up to 10 gallons for paint.
