Special effects, stunts and dogs. Kimberly Jones, event lead for the Lake Travis Film Festival’s Texas Industry Day, has filled the last day of the inaugural program with a rare glimpse of behind the scenes “magic.”
Geared toward showcasing the art of filmmaking, Sunday’s itinerary will feature free family-friendly activities from 1-6 p.m. at Star Hill Ranch, 15000 Hamilton Pool Road, Bee Cave.
Although the day begins with a brunch for filmmakers and VIP badge holders, the program opens up to the public in the afternoon, with flicks beginning at 1 p.m. Special effects professionals will be featured in a question-and-answer format, and stunt teams will discuss their craft as well as creating realism in a film. Dog trainers will be on hand to talk about how animals are kept safe during the movie making process and local canine celebrity Kaxan is also slated to make an appearance.
A Best Texas film award ceremony is scheduled for 3 p.m.
“I just think it would be a great opportunity for the community to show support for the film industry and arts in our area,” said Jones, a longtime Bee Cave resident.
Van tours will be available for film professionals to explore Central Texas’s varied local terrains—such as Reimers Ranch, Spicewood Vineyards and Iron Wolf Ranch and Distillers—with an eye toward possible set locations. The event is by invitation only, but the public may be included if space is available, Jones said.
Food trucks, including It’s All Good Barbecue and Hands Off My Funnel Cake, will offer lunch and snacks to patrons.
No badges or tickets are required for public events.
