ROUND ROCK ― A Williamson County sheriff’s detective seized $60,000 during a traffic stop on Interstate 35 in Georgetown, according to a notice of seizure filed in district court.

Indalicio Guadalupe Quintero, 50, of Eagle Pass, was charged with money laundering, a third-degree felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

The detective stopped Quintero after Quintero illegally changed lanes by driving over a solid white line in the 2800 block of Interstate 35 South, the court document said.

It said Quintero told the detective he and his wife had driven up to Fort Worth to sell two puppies and get some mechanical work on the truck and were returning to Eagle Pass.

After the detective got Quintero’s permission to search the truck he found a nylon gym bag on the truck’s right floorboard, the court document said. The bag contained a backpack with a rectangular package inside of it, the document said.

It said the detective found bundles of cash inside the package totaling $60,020. Quintero said he knew the cash was in the truck, the document said.

Quintero’s wife, who was with him, said she didn’t know anything about the cash and was able to give the detective a very detailed itinerary of the couple’s trip to Fort Worth, according to the court notice.

It said the detective believed that Quintero’s wife didn’t know anything about the cash in the truck.

Quintero was released from the Williamson County Jail on Thursday after posting bond on bail set at $40,000.
