A man was arrested after intentionally crashing his car into four Department of Public Safety vehicles and injuring a state trooper in downtown Austin on Thursday, according to court documents.

State troopers charged Eugenio Flores Olivares Jr., 46, with aggravated assault on a public servant, a first degree felony, and criminal mischief, a third degree felony.

Olivares admitted to hitting three additional DPS cars parked on the 1200 block of Colorado Street before crashing into the fourth car with a trooper inside at the intersection of Guadalupe and West 12th streets, according to the affidavit. Video evidence also captured the incident, an arrest affidavit said.

He told officers he struck the car with a trooper inside on purpose because he needed help and wanted to get the trooper’s attention.

The trooper who was hit sustained injuries; the affidavit did not elaborate on the nature of the injuries.

The damage to the DPS cars is estimated to be between $30,000 and $150,000, according to court documents.

Olivares remained in the Travis County Correctional Complex with bail set at $10,000 for criminal mischief and $50,000 for assault as of Saturday afternoon.
